108-S
- ECE Toothing Plane
Here is an incredibly useful plane, yet one of the most obscure
to many people. If you're planing some gnarly wood, but don't have
a fabulous smoother like ECE Primus
Improved Smoother, you will need a toothing plane. This plane
has serrations on the blade and will striate the wood surface.
It will create no tearout because of the very high (70°) bedding
angle. After this, take the scraper, or even an ordinary smooth
plane and remove striations. This will create a smooth surface
on your burled, birds-eye, or similar figured woods.
Toothing plane is also used to prepare the wood surface before
veneering.

- S - ECE Scrub Plane
Here is another very useful plane that should be present in most
people's toolboxes. You don't realize how handy this plane is before
you use it. Many times it will happen that you need to remove a
larger amount of wood quickly. It can be when jointing a very uneven
edge of the board, or maybe flattening a twisted board. Scrub plane
will take care of such situations quickly and efficiently. You
will not believe how quickly the wood can be removed. Scrub plane
can easily remove 1/8" thick chunks of wood in one pass. Try
doing this with another plane or even a power tool and you'll realize
how useful this plane is.

- S - ECE Dovetail and Moving Fillister Plane
This plane does two things - cuts the male part of a dovetail and
also cuts rabbets along or accros the grain. The blade is skewed
because the sole of the plane is angled at 10°. This is important
when cutting across the grain. The blade will shear the wood fibers
which minimizes the tearout. The handy nicker infront of the blade
will score the wood, so the edges remain crisp.

- S - ECE Moving Fillister
Use this plane for cutting rabbets along or across the wood grain.
This model is very similar to the Dovetail plane above, just that
the blade is not skewed. This will result in some tearout when
planing across the wood grain, so this is not a finishing grade
plane.

- S - ECE Inletting Plane
Beechwood body 9-1/2 inches long with hornbeam sole. Use this routing
plane for hinges, locks and other shallow mortising cuts with the
grain. In use, you view cutting action through the aperture. Cutter
is bedded in a groove to assure that it stays square with the sole.
Be sure cutter is honed square. To use, scribe the area to be recessed
and outline with a chisel. Begin with shallow cut. Tap cutter deeper
after each successive cut. Also use this plane for blind nailing
if the grain isn't too difficult. Watching the action through the
aperture, raise a 3/4-inch long curl. Then drive in a nail and
glue the curl back down over the nail head for an invisible finish.
